The JRCC of Willowdale & the City was launched in September 2019 by Rabbi Yisroel and Shaina Zaltzman. We are based at Yonge and Finch, serving Russian Jews throughout the south of the City.
Local activities, including Shabbat services, holiday programs, educational classes, and more, grew quickly, as did outreach activities to the more (Jewishly) isolated areas such as Etobicoke and Scarborough, with the first ever Chanukah party and giant Menorah lighting!
In March, our lives and the world around us was flooded with uncertainty. JRCC of Willowdale responded immediately by springing into action. With trademark Chabad optimism, we found safe and creative ways to bring joy and critical resources to many people in the community who may have otherwise been forgotten. We brought hope and a smile to those faced with the sad proposition of celebrating Passover or Rosh HaShana alone by delivering a Seder in a Box or a Shofar blower to the door of those home-bound by the pandemic. Through a series of buddy programs and ongoing virtual events, we continue to mobilize and morph into a social safety net to make sure that no one in our community and beyond falls between the cracks.
Coming to the close of the fiscal year of 2020 and heading into – what will hopefully be a new bright year – 2021, we would like to guarantee the continuity and growth of our 'Young', yet vibrant community, by finishing the year financially responsible and with a base upon which to continue to flourish.
We have big plans for 2021:
Rent a permanent location on Yonge St. for our local activities in Willowdale – thus expanding their reach immensely!
Expand our local Sunday Hebrew school!
Start an extra-curricular Hebrew school in Etobicoke and Scarborough!
Start programming for Jewish young adults throughout southern Toronto!
You can make this happen!
Every dollar you donate today is worth $2!
Thank you for your support!
